Purpose of Meeting

Southwestern Vermont Medical Center’s (SVMC) Outpatient Rehabilitation department will host an informational lecture on Tuesday, May 20 at 2:00 pm., explaining treatment options for people living with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) and other movement disorders.

Physical therapist Noelle De Geus, DPT, physical therapist assistant Nina Nunes, PTA, and speech-language pathologist Kate O’Neill, MS, CCC-SLP will discuss two specific programs offered by SVMC: LSVT BIG and LSVT LOUD.

LSVT BIG helps people recalibrate their perceptions of their movements and counteract the tendency towards smaller, slower movements in order to promote improved mobility and completion of daily life tasks, such as getting dressed, getting in and out of vehicles, and writing.

LSVT LOUD helps people recalibrate their perceptions of their voice so they know how loud or soft they sound to other people and can feel comfortable using a stronger voice at a normal loudness level.

The session will cover the following topics:

  • How LSVT BIG and LSVT LOUD address symptoms of Parkinson’s disease and other neurological disorders
  • An overview of an LSVT BIG/LOUD session
  • Research highlights on LSVT BIG and LSVT LOUD
  • How to get started with LSVT BIG and LSVT LOUD

Please join SVMC’s session to learn more about these programs that have helped many people with Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders improve their quality of life!
